NSS Operational Areas

ALL persons entering an NSS operational area must comply with all instructions given
by NSS employees and meet our minimum safety requirements. ALL persons must sign in prior to
entry and sign out prior to leaving site.

1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
a. High visibility shirt or vest with 50mm reflective banding.
b. Safety boots or shoes.
c. Safety glasses.
d. Long pants.
e. Safety helmet.

All PPE MUST be worn prior to entry and whilst in the operational area.


2. Traffic Control
Adhere to the speed limit specified in the Traffic Management Plan for the operational area.

a. All traffic is to adhere the Traffic Management Plan provided.
b. Be aware heavy machinery can travel in any direction and have right of way at all times.
c. All trucks MUST have their head lights and flashing beacons on whilst in the operational area.
d. All pedestrian traffic is to be escorted by an authorised NSS representative.


3. Emergency & Evacuation
In the event of an emergency or evacuation you are requested to:

a. Adhere to directions as given by the NSS person in control.
b. Follow the designated exit traffic route.
c. Report to the nearest Muster Point.


4. Loading/Unloading of Trucks
  • Truck drivers receiving containers must remain in their vehicles at all times.
  • Truck drivers receiving containers must engage twist locks at the entry/exit points of the site.
  • If a truck driver must exit their vehicle to assist with loading/unloading they must be in a position of safety which is at the rear of the trailer, where he can direct the forklift and remain in visual contact with the fork operator at all times.
  • The load/unload sequence should be agreed upon before loading/unloading commences.
  • The truck driver must ensure the load is restrained to transport regulations.
  • The truck driver must ensure the load is within the mass and dimension capacity of the trailer/s for public roads.
  • The truck driver must ensure the correct documentation for the load.
  • Do not use mobile phone whilst being loaded/unloaded or driving on site.
  • Utilise rubber mats when loading/unloading machinery.

5. Conducting work on site
All personnel entering an NSS operational area that are carrying out high risk work/operating machinery are required to:
  1. Provide a copy of the JSA / Safe Work Method Statement to the Site Supervisor for approval
    before any work is carried out.
  2. Provide copies of any licences/competencies required to carry out the work.
  3. Complete the sign in book daily whilst on site.
  4. Adhere to directions and instructions given by the NSS person in control.
  5. Must be fit for work and may be subject to random drug & alcohol testing while on site.

I HAVE READ AND UNDERSTAND THE ABOVE MANDATORY SAFETY OBLIGATIONS AND AGREE TO COMPLY AT ALL TIMES WHILST IN AN OPERATIONAL AREA.

I AGREE TO COMPLY WITH ANY INSTRUCTION FROM AN NSS EMPLOYEE.

I UNDERSTAND THIS SHORT TERM INDUCTION IS ONLY FOR THE PERIOD STATED BELOW & I WILL BE REQUIRED TO REGISTER FOR THE ONLINE INDUCTION ON THE NSS WEBSITE.
